Fun and Frolic with Friends

A group of us friends decided to take a vacation in the Caribbean together combining a couple of days with the Labor Day weekend. Since I work with a travel agency, I was chosen to select the most-visited island in the region and come up with an itinerary that included activities that we could enjoy as a group. Well, I guess I always have the knack of getting stuck with the most difficult task.

A week later, we had dinner at a restaurant and tried to decide on our holiday destination. Jamaica, I found out, is the most-visited island though Puerto Rico seemed a popular destination for Americans. Animated discussions followed after I put forward a list of five of the most-visited islands and the fun things we could do on each of these islands. Miriam wanted to go to the Bahamas or Bermuda, she loves scuba diving and snorkeling. Dan voted for the Dominican Republic, he heard a lot about the trekking trips to see the 27 waterfalls in Damajagua and thought it would be fun. The others retorted that there were water falls galore in Grenada, and even Jamaica had its own Dunn’s River Falls. .Lazy Sam loves to sway on a hammock under the palm trees and watch the babes on the beach, so it had to be Jamaica or no other island, if it were up to him. Beach volleyball and banana boat rides were high on his list of things to do!

Watching them squabble, I realized how much they meant to me, and that I would go just about anywhere with them. What mattered was that I could be with them and have some good natured fun.

Guess where we went for our vacation? After all those discussions about the most-visited island in the Caribbean, we went to Mexico ! What clinched Robert’s argument in favor of Mexico was that we could have a beachside holiday, go scuba diving or play beach volleyball. Chichen Itza’s ruins and cenotes fascinated all of us.
