So Just How Much Money Do You Spend on Your Car?

Saving money is, in essence, elementary : simply make more money than you expend, or to put it another way, spend less than you make. I account for my expenditure and examine where my bills can be cut back. On doing that, I discovered one of the greatest outgoings was my on my car.

Just like many individuals, I thought my car was essential to my daily life. I drove to my job. I did my shopping using my car. I socialized with my car. How could I exist without my car? In reality, quite well.

First of all, my work is only three kilometres from my home. Therefore I purchased a bicycle and rode to work – no fuel, and in reality, it was faster than driving my car since I avoided the queues.

In terms of shopping, I rode the bus – not really any hassle as there are coaches every 10 minutes and it’s inexpensive.

Lastly socialising – so how would not having a car encroach on my freedom? This is where I have to admit I had less choices because public transport finished after seven o’clock in the evening and it’s just not practical to ride your bicycle to join your friends in town for a drink. And you know what? I didn’t miss that aspect of socialising. I have my local boozer and I enjoy walking down there once or twice a week.

Overall, my monthly spending has gone down 25% with no car. On the rare occasions I do require a car (or even a van for moving items), I lease one for a day, or the weekend. I can locate a good price by searching online for one (e.g. typing a phrase like van hire leicester).
